A Melbourne apartment has sold for an amazing $40,000 per square meter.
One of the most expensive apartments in Australia has just sold for somewhere around $30 million, though the exact price is unknown.
The price beats Melbourne's previous record of $25 million for the Australia 108 building in Southbank.
The 800 square meter penthouse apartment has 2 levels. It has 7 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 2 private pools, a sauna, a gym, a wine cellar, a cigar room, a water feature that extends to both levels, and a 10 car garage.
The property, in the Saint Moritz development in St Kilda was developed by Tim Gurner, who said the price was strictly confidential.
"This penthouse has been designed to be the best in Australia and arguably one of the best in the world.
"We worked with the successful buyer to design and customise the penthouse … before formalising the sale."
The $30 million price estimate is based on the asking price.
It was bought by Antony Catalano, former head of Domain. It is reported that he plans to move his family there from their current Melbourne waterfront home.
The wine cellar holds 1000 bottles.
Mr Gurner had planned to put the penthouse on the market last June, but there was so much interest he reportedly sold it for the asking price after a number of potential buyers competed for it.
